First official look at PT Anderson's 'Inherent Vice'.

I had many 'most anticipated films of 2014', with the likes of the already-seen / loved Boyhood and soon-to-be-seen Interstellar and Foxcatcher. Probably on top of the list now is Inherent Vice, from the genius behind There Will Be Blood and The Master.

This is ripped from the new summer issue of EW. Now, when will the trailer come out?

Her- Movie Review by Sean Wu

Finally, I can shut the book on 2013. And there is no better way to cap out the year with Her, the best film of 2013. As a whole, this bizarrely beautiful Spike Jonze love story is so perfect because of three scenes:

First, after Joaquin Phoenix's mopey Theodore Twombly meets his OS, he brings her to work to help him proofread his letters he's ghostwriting. His system Samantha reads them out loud at first, and Theodore tells her she doesn't have to. She responds with an unenthusiastic and somewhat disappointed okay. An awkward silence falls occurs, and Theodore tells her that she can. She responds with an enthusiastic and jovial "Okay!"

The scene, on paper, sounds good. But on the screen, it's beautiful. Scarlett Johansson performs so brilliantly with just her voice alone, my heart honestly melted at the moment she said the second "Okay!". Maybe because the OS voice is so human and so familiar that I was able to relate to Samantha on a human level.

Spike Jonze's latest: Her (2013)

I'm way too late for this, but it's better late than never: The spectacularly relevant trailer for Spike Jonze's latest: Her, with a Joaquin Phoenix, and a particularly attractive female supporting cast.

Inherent Vice casting news!

This film won't drop until 2014, but I'd be lying if I said I was not pumped already. Because I am.

The lead role is potheard P.I. Doc Sportello, who will be played by Joaquin Phoenix. We all remember what happened last time Phoenix worked with PT Anderson...

Next up, Owen Wilson has been announced for another lead role. Undetermined at this time, but I expect great things from Wilson (a good actor who has been biting the bad for the past few years now, Midnight in Paris being an exception)

Benicio Del Toro is speculated to be Doc's lawyer in a supporting role.

However the cast turns out, the film is bound for greatness. The cast is fine and profitable as is right now, and it is also getting big budget funding from Warner Bros.

CAN'T WAIT!

The Master (2012)- On a slow boat to loneliness. (4 Stars)

The Master is film about two men who are two halves that complete one another. One man is Freddie Quell, a WWII vet who moonshines and lives off nomadic loneliness. The other is Lancaster Dodd, the leader of a new religion called The Cause. His philosophy is messy and is soft-spoken during his first meeting with Freddie.

LAFCA predictions!

Today the Los Angeles Film Critics Association (LAFCA) is announcing, and this could be a make or break for many movies. If Zero Dark Thirty wins, it would become the frontrunner. If The Master wins, it would basically be a Best Picture nominee lock. If Lincoln wins, not much would happen. If Amour wins, it would make itself a Best Picture nominee. If Les Mis wins, god save us.

Best actor predictions.

BEST ACTOR:
1. Hugh Jackman for Les Miserables
This is another very bold prediction. No, I do not think Day-Lewis will win an unprecedented third Oscar for Best Actor, and I'm pretty sure the Academy loves Hugh. Nor do I think Les Miserables will go home empty handed.

2. Bradley Cooper for Silver Linings Playbook
The weird thing is that I'm starting to like Bradley Cooper as an actor now. He is doing more challenging roles, later seen in The Place Beyond the Pines and David O'Rusell's previously titled American Bulls***. When Silver Linings takes the top prize, it's going to take more than that. Also, Bradley's got Harvey with him.

3. Daniel Day-Lewis for Lincoln
For the greatest actor of our generation, the academy might feel inclined to give some love to Danny. They probably won't give him a third Oscar, no man has ever won three Oscars for Best Actor in the first place. He will definitely be nominated, though.

4. Joaquin Phoenix for The Master
This is a very obvious nomination. After winning Best Actor in Venice, and only receiving love for this challenging role, he will be nominated. For those who don't like the film, however, they won't give him the boost for the win.

5. Anthony Hopkins for Hitchcock
Anthony Hopkins won Best Actor in 1991 for his terrifying work in The Silence of the Lambs. He is almost synonymous with horror (and Merchant-Ivory,), and if he does even OK as the Master of Suspense, he will be nominated.

I hate to leave Ben Affleck off for Argo (being in Daredevil and Gigli kills, man,), but something inside me tells me he has a better shot than Spielberg for Argo. Something also tells me that Lincoln  might be ignored, a la Amistad.

Check back tomorrow for Best Supporting Actress predictions. While your at it, admire Joaquin Phoenix's performance by watching a trailer for The Master.

Venice Film Festival lineup!

The Master ain't 'Joaquin' away Venice.
Arguably late to the party, again.

Venice has a lineup more stellar than in recent memory. Previous reports stated that Italy wanted to, must I say it, 'reel' in De Palma's Passion, Malick's To the Wonder, and Thomas Anderson's The Master. They have all three, and then some.

Full lineup here.
